2008: mayfly
an exercise in brevity and introspection. based on the fab mayfly project:
The best brief biography I've ever heard was for a mayfly:
"Born. Eat. Shag. Die."
Because Ephemeroptera lives only for twenty-four hours, the summary of its life is refreshingly straightforward: To the point. The stuff that matters. Just the essentials. ...there's nothing quite like embracing the constraint of brevity (whether time or wordcount) when summing up the last year of your life to make you re-examine your priorities, or focus on what has affected you or was important to you over the last twelve months.
so, here's my sum of 2008 in 24 words [or peruse my lists in one place]:
- valley behind. facing now.
- finding home.
- orange belt.
- activism.
- east bay!
- inspiration.
- change.
- reading.
- yardlove.
- sunroom, painting.
- layoffs.
- tour de gay.
- yes. we. can.

Happy new year! Good evening with friends old and new, jack and cokes, *almost* a fight at the club (only fun cuz it was almost), and good late night eats in Chinatown. Much love, and best wishes to you all. Here's to no more W in 2009! Yeeeeha!

Toki does osoji Good day at home--Cleaning house, planting greens, walking with the pups. Toki's accidentally helping by throwing her toy into the trash.
Had one of those intergenerational/twinkie moments...I asked my mom if there was a Korean word for cleaning house/self for the New Year. She looked at me like I was slow (yes, I could see her look over the phone), and said "chung-soh," which means cleaning. When I pressed her for a more specific word, she said "dae chungsoh," which means big cleaning. And I could hear the look on her face--if I cleaned properly all year, I wouldn't have to look for special words to describe it.
Since I didn't make it to a Korean bathhouse, I scrubbed about a pound offa myself this morning (guess it's a traditional thing). I didn't bother to ask my mom if there was a word for that tho.Labels: 2008, dogdogdog, dogs, toki

whirlwind
It's nearly 2009, and much has been neglected lately. Thinking about a little osoji tomorrow before the New Year begins.
2008 has been a good year, and I'm considering how to sum it up. Looking forward to 2009 (hello, day after tomorrow!) and hoping for good change.
So best wishes to all and good end/beginnings to all.Labels: 2008, art, change, dogdogdog, dogs, doodle
